Lacey and Larkin Have Won Rights for the Oppressed

During a time of President Donald Trump is inciting anti-immigration further into the hearts of the people, it is more important than ever that we stand up for immigration rights. I have watched as friends of mine have been deported simply because of the color of their skin.

I wonder if any of us would have been able to be born in America had this happen to our ancestors. This evil crime cannot stand. Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have started the Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund. This nonprofit is used to give other nonprofits a bankroll so that they can also stand up for civil liberties, immigration, and freedom of speech.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin started this fund after they won a settlement against Maricopa County. In fact, they won this settlement after Sheriff Joe Arpaio tried to take away their very American Rights.

It all started when Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin discovered certain crimes that America’s toughest Sheriff was committing. They found out that he had specifically engineered a program to racially profile Latinos in the state of Arizona.

While that itself is appalling, what is even worse is that Sheriff Arpaio would then take him to jail cells that should have failed Health expectations, but only passed because he was able to put some coin in the hands of his friends. The conditions on these jail cells were so inhumane that many Latinos actually died while being detained.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin took these crimes against humanity and made them known to the world. Using their own Outlets, Phoenix news Times, as well as the very prominent Village Voice media, they showed the racism that exists in our Police Department.

Sheriff Arpaio did not want to let the stand though. He ordered his own selective team to pull up to Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin’s homes in their SUVs on the night of October 18th 2007. He would then illegally force his way into their home and arrest both Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin would then win a settlement in court against the Maricopa County. The total amount was 3.75 million dollars. It was this settlement money that Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin would use to start the Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund.
