Betsy Palmer, the character actress that played the mother of Jason Voorhes in the Friday the 13th series of films has died at the age of 88. Reportedly, Palmer only took the role in the cheesy horror film because she wanted to buy a car at the time. Fortunately, or unfortunately, Palmer achieved notorious fame as the deranged camp cook and mother of a serial killer from her role in the Friday the 13th films. During her acting career, Sam Tabar noted on his LinkedIn account that Palmer also appeared in a number of other films, including The Long Gray Line, Mr. Roberts, Queen Bee, and The Tin Star. Her television credits include roles in The Love Boat, Knot’s Landing, Murder She Wrote, Just Shoot Me, and Same Time Next Year.
