James Dondero is the co-founder and the current Chief Executive Officer of Highland Capital Management(HCM). He is currently residing in Dallas, Texas, where he is involved in overseeing Highland’s investment operations and strategies for both institutional and retail products. He is among the original developers of the Collateralized Loan Obligation. James Dondero acquired his degree award in the School of Commerce from the University of Virginia’s McIntire. With highest honors, he earned double majors in Accounting and Finance. Additionally, Dondero holds certifications as a Chartered Financial Analyst(CFA) and a Certified Management Accountant(CMA).
James Dondero’s is an analyst and began his career in 1984. This led to him being embraced into a training program called Morgan Guaranty. In 1985, Mr. Dondero worked as a Corporate Bond Analyst at the American Express. Later on, he served at the American Express as Portfolio Manager, and left the company in 1989 to join Protective Life’s GIV subsidiary, where he worked as the Chief Investment Officer. He is the board Chairperson of Cornerstone Healthcare, Nexpoint, CCS Medical Corporation, and NexBank.
James Dandero supports various charitable activities and organizations, including Perot Museum of Natural Science, the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Institute, Education is Freedom, Snowball Express, and SMU’s Tower Scholars Program.
James Dondero has now earned a board position which consists of around 100 members, to work at Cox School at Southern Methodist University (SMU) on the Executive Board. This post has enabled him to fund a program that encourages and recognizes academic pursuits in public policy named Highland Capital Management Tower Scholars.
Most of these board members are non-academics who focus on advising on the school’s business strategies. Highland is amid the many beneficiaries of the funds being contributed to the business community by the Cox School at SMU.
